Weolite Tank Installation – St Austell, Cornwall

Introduction: As part of the New affordable dwellings in Trewoon, St Austell, Fred Champion Groundworks Ltd was tasked with installing improvements to St Mewan Lane – this included the installation of 34m of 1800mm diameter Weolite pipe.

Challenges: It was initially thought that the ground could be battered back. Following an ecological survey, however, a badger set was found, which could not be disturbed. NTS (UK) were engaged to carry out the Design and Supply of the excavation support, safe ladder access and edge protection – ensuring minimal disturbance during installation.

Solution: Fred Champion Groundworks Ltd fully embraced the Slide Rail System and gained from its commercial benefits. Nobody was required to enter the excavation until formation was achieved. A Dig & Push method of installation was employed throughout. The attenuation tank was installed ahead of the programme.
